Easy Christmas dessert recipes

Christmas is the perfect time to fill your home with the aromas of honey, butter, and orange. If you want to make the most classic Greek Christmas desserts with simple and foolproof recipes, try the following: kourabiedes, melomakarona and Vasilopita!


🎄 1. Traditional Greek Kourabiedes 

Ingredients:

250 g butter

100 g powdered sugar

1 egg yolk (optional)

2 tbsp brandy (optional)

1/2 tsp vanilla

120 g chopped almonds

350 g flour

Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

1. Beat the butter until fluffy, add powdered sugar, and continue beating for a few minutes.

2. Add the egg yolk, vanilla, brandy, and almonds.

3. Gradually add the flour. The dough should not stick to your hands.

4. Shape the cookies into various forms of your choice.

5. Bake at 170°C (340°F) for 20–25 minutes, depending on your oven.

6. Let cool, dust with powdered sugar, and enjoy!

🎄 2. Honey-Soaked Melomakarona 

 Ingredients for the dough:

1 cup sunflower oil

1 cup olive oil

1/2 cup orange juice

1/4 cup brandy

Orange zest

1 tsp baking soda

4 cups flour

1 cup fine semolina

1 tsp cinnamon

For the syrup:

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

1 cup honey

Instructions:

1. In a bowl, mix all liquids: oils, orange juice, brandy, and zest.

2. Gradually add flour, semolina, and spices.

3. Shape the cookies gently to avoid the dough becoming too firm and place them on a flat baking surface.

4. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes.

5. Dip the warm cookies briefly in the hot syrup, place them on a plate to cool, and enjoy with your loved ones!

🎄 3. Greek New Year Cake – Vasilopita


Ingredients:

250 g butter

250 g sugar

4 eggs

1 cup milk

1/2 cup orange juice

Orange zest

450 g flour

Powdered sugar for dusting

Lucky coin (flouri)


Instructions:

1. Beat the butter with sugar until fluffy.

2. Add the eggs one by one.

3. Mix in milk, orange juice, and zest.

4. Sift the flour with baking powder and incorporate into the mixture.

5. Add the lucky coin and pour the batter into a baking pan.

6. Bake at 170°C (340°F) for 45–50 minutes.

7. Dust with powdered sugar and your delicious Vasilopita is ready!
